I only started running last year when I turned 33 when I decided that at my age I need to start something to keep fit. My first attempt at a race was the Tenby 10k last July, completing this in 48 minutes and feeling the atmosphere gave a buzz to carry on running. Afterwards I beat my 10K PB in the Cwmavon 10K, finishing in a time of 44 minutes in October.
I am very proud to be one of the entries to have been chosen to be a member of #TeamBreconCarreg, In all 20 amateur runners from around Wales will run on behalf of Brecon Water who, for every mile we run in training or in races, will donate £1 to the Wales Air Ambulance! Your support will go a long way in getting me to run (even on wet days). There has also been a Just Giving page set up for us to raise funds separately from the Brecon Water donations, if you wish to donate please visit the page here.
After a successful first attempt of a half marathon this year when I completed the Llanelli Half Marathon course in 1 hour 39 minutes. The next race I entered was the half marathon in Tenby during the Long Course Weekend in July, the heat and hills we’re a massive challenge but even though it was tough I still managed to compete this in 1 hour and 56 minutes. My last race of the year will be the Cardiff Half marathon this Sunday (7th October) which I’ll be aiming to beat my PB gained in Llanelli. Completing the Cardiff Half will be the first time ever I have stuck to my new year’s resolution!
Training has been tough to juggle this year with the 3 kids to ensure I have plenty of family time with them by running mostly after 8pm in the evening. I have (finally) inspired my wife to start running who after only 6 runs ran a sub 40 minute 5k! Impressed for sure! Hopefully, with my running and my wife’s our children will be inspired to keep fit and run.
The future is looking bright with a new bike purchase with my next challenges being running a marathon (not sure which one) and completing a triathlon at two distances, sprint and half distance!
